External hard drive w/ game on different computer?

I installed GTA 4 on my laptop today at home. I'm currently at another person's house, it said I had to put in the serial number again, so i did. Then I went to open it and it stopped... again and again and again. I know the whole thing with the compatability, so that's not the problem. Can someone help me?
