I need advice on a complicated thing badly ?

Alrigh so me and my bf broke up needed to step back and work things out i was always really controlling by the way well anyway he made me a promise said. He wouldn't have sex it anything with anyone else unless we decided we were done for good. And yes he kept that promise hes very hones well he always felt controlled by me and i've always been jealous when i shouldn't be and he delt with it im thinking i should tell him that were not together right now until we work thing's out it's he can take back that promise im not sure cuz he i love him a lot and i jus want him to realize im not controlling anymore would that be a terrible idea
