Was my husband overreacting when he got pegged with a football in the balls today?

So we were at my parents for a BBQ and my husband with his brother and my brothers and cousins decided to play some football well i accidentally tried talking to him and he got hit in the balls with the football and just dropped he didn't want to be touched at all and felt uber nauseous. Just wondering if it really does hurt that much or if he was overreacting. Does it hurt that much? What can i do for him? HE won't let me touch him, Why?
